Our Values & Goals.
Growing up, I was always in the woods. After school, I would throw my backpack inside the house and run wild until my mom called me inside. I’d play by myself for hours or with friends, either way, I had fun.
Now, at 25 years old, married, a father of one, and owning multiple businesses, I don’t get to hit the trails as often as I’d like, but I’ve learned the enjoyment of trail running. I especially enjoy running off the trail, straight through the woods, as fast as I can (just like when I was a kid). I call this “Venture Running”.
A few years ago, almost every day, for a few months straight, I spent hours walking up and down trails, praying and thinking. During that time, I learned a true appreciation for all of Creation. I also learned God’s heart for people. And because of these things, Venture was birthed.
I wanted to create a company that featured the handmade products of hikers worldwide. I’ve had this passion for empowering the little guy and I thought “Hey, why don’t I create a platform to feature these people’s products.”
In the midst of thinking and praying about whether or not I should start Venture, I had a dream one night about a knife with an orange handle. I woke up and thought “That’d be a sweet knife to sell!” I then looked at my phone to see I had received a Facebook invite from a friend who just started creating handmade knives. I looked at his page and saw that same knife with an orange handle. That was all the confirmation I needed.
Since then, we’ve worked hard at creating a brand that kept its people at the center. From the very beginning, we’ve been featuring the pictures and stories of hikers worldwide. And we never want this to change. I strive to create a company that will conform to the needs of its people.
That’s why we’ve taken the long, hard road of featuring products that are made by small businesses or even individuals who have a passion for the outdoors, sustainability, and equipping hikers with the best gear they can find.
Feedback is crucial for us. We refuse to create products that people don’t ACTUALLY need. The last thing we want to do is contribute to overflowing land-fills, environmental decay, and financial instability. That’s why we’ve aimed our sites at offering products that are one-time purchases. Personally, I don’t want to own 20 t-shirts. I want 5-7 shirts that will last forever. Same thing with bottles. I want one travel mug, and one big water bottle…that’s it! I only want one backpack too.
